About Us

Janet, an animal lover, former veterinary assistant and K-9 trainer has created a successful training and breeding program of positive temperament, genetically sound, healthy and intelligent Labrador Retrievers. She trains, competes and hunts with her dogs. They are truly part of her family.

Storm's Ahead Kennels and Pet Resort is a full time boarding and training facility. We specialize in the training of gun dogs for upland and waterfowl hunting. Our program includes all aspects of retriever training, from basic obedience to advanced marking and handling. Our upland program includes quarting, whistle commands to hunt close and retrieve to hand.

We run in all levels of AKC hunt tests with our dogs as well as client dogs. Additionally upland and waterfowl hunts may be incorporated in our training program. Training sessions include live ducks and pheasants. We have access to hundreds of acres of land and many technical ponds, marshes and flooded timbers.

About The Name

The origin of our kennel name comes from our first lab "Radars Detected Storms A Comin MH'" - "Stormy".

After searching long and hard for just the right pedigree, we had waited two years for an available pup. To get a dog like Stormy the wait was well worth it!! Stormy's main goal in life was to please us....whether it be duck hunting on a nearly frozen lake, pheasant hunting in South Dakota, or competing in field trial and hunt tests, Stormy simply wanted to do his best and please his handler. Stormy easily became everyone's' friend. When prospective puppy buyers would come to see a litter, Stormy always had the ability to seal the deal, "we want a pup just like him" they would say. Stormy was so much more than a trial dog, he was our handsome boy and part of our family. Stormy along with Teal (Storms Prize Whistling Wings MH) are the foundation of our breeding program, which proved to be a great success, producing pups and grandpups that are all over the United States, all giving great enjoyment to their owners. As everyone always says, dogs just don't live long enough, Stormy passed away in March 2007. Living up to Stormy standards he hunted and played hard to the the end, he just wanted to sit next to us and be petted, not wanting to leave his family. He will live on forever in the hearts and the priceless memories of many.
